An e-mail alias is an e-mail address that uses exactly the same mailbox as the initial email address. For instance, you can have firstname.lastname@example.org as the original email address and create an alias email@example.com. Both the addresses will be able to share the very same mailbox, so messages sent to both of them will be received in one place. Feel free to use aliases for several reasons, like communicating with various teams of people or enrolling on sites. If you start getting a great deal of spam, for instance, you can just delete the alias while your original mailbox will not be changed in any way and you will maintain the communication that you need. Aliases in many cases are regarded as a substitute for forwarding e-mails from one email address to a different one if you use a couple of addresses for contact on your web site.
